A grey, even sky over the water, with barely a breath of wind and no real change in pressure. The water to cover at Lac Roger is the margins and the shelf beyond them. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Lac Roger is set in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. This is pine and birch ground. At about 23 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The edge runs 3.0 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The closest town, Val-d'Or, is 95 km away. Malartic lies 100 km off, Notre-Dame-du-Lac another 103 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch, walleye, white sucker and brown bullhead. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Roger the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Typical July readings run about 17°C; by January the average is down near -15°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near late April. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near late November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Anyone fishing Lac Roger regularly works to that calendar.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. The nearest alternative is Lac Grailly, 1 km out. Check the current arrangement for Lac Roger.
