Glare on the water under a clear sky, with a whisper of wind from the NNW and pressure going nowhere. The fish at Lac Rochu are likely to sit near the margins and the shelf beyond them. The productive run goes the day. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac Rochu is one of the Chaudière-Appalaches waters in Quebec. It sits in lake country bush. Around 40 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. There is roughly 2.5 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. On our Chaudière-Appalaches list it sits near the top for size. Adstock lies 5.6 km from the water. Saint-Éphrem-de-Beauce is 12 km and Thetford-Mines 20 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Reported across Chaudière-Appalaches: lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker, sauger and channel catfish. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lac Rochu the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Climate normals give 18°C for July and -13°C for January. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. At Lac Rochu the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Access points are not mapped for this water, which suits people who like quiet. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Lac aux Grelots is 6.6 km distant. Signs at Lac Rochu carry more weight than any list.
