Bands of rain crossing through the day, with light air out of the SSW with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Lac Ritchie around the weed line and any gaps in it. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Out in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec, sits Lac Ritchie. The setting is spruce and muskeg. It runs to roughly 23 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. There is roughly 4.3 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Leblanc is the closest place, 100 km off. Further out sit Senneterre (126 km) and Manawan (129 km). No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Our records hold no depth for this water. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Abitibi-Témiscamingue include northern pike, yellow perch and walleye. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. At Lac Ritchie the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Climate records put July near 16°C and January near -18°C. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. At Lac Ritchie the season follows that pattern closely.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. If the gate is shut, Lac Gobbo at 1.1 km is the nearest alternative. For Lac Ritchie, the notice at the access point is the final word.
