Rain moving through today, with light air out of the SSW and pressure sitting still. Activity on Lac Gobbo should centre on the margins and the shelf beyond them. The forecast is against you; the night is the least bad option. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

The Abitibi-Témiscamingue end of Quebec holds Lac Gobbo. The setting is northern bush. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. On size it sits at the modest end of our Abitibi-Témiscamingue list. Leblanc sits 100 km from here and is the nearest stop. Gatineau is the closest city, 283 km away. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Abitibi-Témiscamingue: northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and white sucker. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac Gobbo the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Between January at about -18°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. The lid tends to go about early May and return around mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. The season on Lac Gobbo follows the weather closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. For a change of water, Lac Ritchie is 1.1 km distant. Signs at Lac Gobbo carry more weight than any list.
