Uneven cloud over the water after dark, with a whisper of wind from the W with the glass holding level. Lac Riel should fish best around any hard bottom among the soft today. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Riel is an Outaouais water, in Quebec. The surface lies 167 metres up. Roughly 13 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Around 1.5 km of margin, front to back. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our Quebec listings. Saint-Boniface sits 2.7 km from the bank. Then Maniwaki, 12 km, and Saint-Raphaël, 27 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Records held for Outaouais cover pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. On Lac Riel that means starting tight and working out.
The range across the year is -14°C to 18°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near late November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. That shapes the year on Lac Riel.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lac Otterson sits 1.5 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Riel in what we hold.
