Heavy overcast holding through the day, with a light S breeze with the barometer flat. Start the search at Lac Lafontaine along sheltered bays and points. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Lac Lafontaine is one of the Outaouais waters in Quebec. Everything around it is mixed forest. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. It is a small entry by Outaouais standards. The nearest place of any size is Saint-Boniface, 1.5 km away. Further out sit Maniwaki (12 km) and Saint-Raphaël (26 km). This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Lafontaine the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
The warm month here averages 18°C; the cold one sits at -14°C. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. The season on Lac Lafontaine rarely departs from it.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Eugene at 1.9 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Lac Lafontaine before loading the car.
