A closed sky with even light today, with light air out of the WSW with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Lac Rene around the weed line and any gaps in it. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec is where Lac Rene sits. The country round it is spruce and muskeg from end to end. For supplies, Pont Rouge is 80 km out. It is 117 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. Also on the doorstep: Lac Armande (0.7 km), Lac de la Transmission about 0.9 km, Lac Gagnon (1.1 km), Lac Magella about 1.9 km and Lac Saint-Hilaire (2.1 km). No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
We hold no depth figure for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Species logged across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac Rene the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Climate normals give 16°C for July and -19°C for January. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. Once it clears, about early May, the fishing comes on quickly. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Time your trip to Lac Rene by conditions rather than dates.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Lac Armande at 0.7 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing on Lac Rene should be assumed from this page alone.
