A grey, even sky over the water, with a whisper of wind from the SW with the glass holding level. Give the seam between weed and open water the first hour at Lac Renault. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac Renault sits within Nord-du-Québec in Quebec. Beyond the shoreline you have northern bush. About 5.19 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. Around 22 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. Across our Quebec listings, few waters are bigger. Nearest town is Waswanipi, 19 km off. For a city, Saguenay is 382 km off. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Records held for Nord-du-Québec cover Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. On Lac Renault a short move beats a long cast.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -19°C in January. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Ice-out usually falls in early May, and the weeks after it fish hardest. On the long-run averages the water opens up around early May and starts locking again about mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Plan any trip to Lac Renault around it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lac du Flanc de Resineux, 9.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Renault for certain.
