An even grey lid over the water, with light air out of the WSW and steady pressure. The fish at Lac Raymond are likely to sit near the shallows early and the drop later. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lac Raymond is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean waters in Quebec. The bank gives way to boreal forest. The water measures roughly 4 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. Our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list holds plenty of bigger water. The nearest town is Saint-Honoré, 56 km away. Saint-Fulgence follows at 56 km, then Chicoutimi at 65 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Anyone new to Lac Raymond should walk it once before setting up.
Temperature averages peak at 15°C in July and bottom out at -19°C in January. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near mid May. Climate figures give an open season running mid May to early November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Raymond.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Lucette sits 0.6 km off and takes the overflow. Confirm before you fish Lac Raymond.
