Solid cloud cover today, with just enough SSW wind to ripple the surface with a settled glass. The fish at Lac Rand are likely to sit near the weed line and any gaps in it. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Lac Rand in the Mauricie part of Quebec. The ground round it is spruce and muskeg. The water measures roughly 10 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. There is roughly 1.5 km of shoreline here, which is a short walk end to end. Start from Weymontachie, 33 km down the road. Beyond it, Manawan at 58 km and Leblanc at 81 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Fish documented in Mauricie include northern pike, brook trout, walleye, yellow perch and white sucker. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Read Lac Rand for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Average temperature peaks around 16°C in July and bottoms out near -16°C in January. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lac Rand.
Access is not recorded for this water. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac a l'Eau Claire sits 1 km off and takes the overflow. For Lac Rand, the notice at the access point is the final word.
