Dull, settled light over the water, with next to no ripple and pressure sitting still. The productive water at Lac Pupa will be around the seam between weed and open water. Fair numbers all day without a real peak. Work fewer spots, but work them properly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Pupa lies in Mauricie, in Quebec. It stands 527 metres above sea level. At roughly 4 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. On size it sits at the modest end of our Mauricie list. Manawan is the closest town at 43 km. Weymontachie lies 80 km off, Leblanc another 85 km. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Mauricie records list northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Work Lac Pupa in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The year swings from about -17°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. Open water arrives late and leaves early, which concentrates the fishing. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Lac Pupa fishes to that pattern most years.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. The nearest alternative is Lac du Sable Sec, 2.5 km out. Check the current arrangement for Lac Pupa.
