A closed sky with even light today, with the water lying quiet and no real change in pressure. The fish at Lac Poup-Poup are likely to sit near the calm side of the wind. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Poup-Poup stands in Capitale-Nationale, Quebec. It stands 337 metres above sea level. It covers about 2 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Capitale-Nationale. The nearest place of any size is Laurentides, 23 km away. Sainte-Foy is the closest city, 102 km away. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Capitale-Nationale include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon and longnose sucker. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Poup-Poup fishes better once you know its edges.
The range across the year is -15°C to 17°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around late November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Poup-Poup.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Walleye come to jigs worked slow near bottom, and to trolled crankbaits along the drops at dusk. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Should this one be busy, Lac Carl is 1.4 km off. For Lac Poup-Poup in particular, ask before you travel.
