A closed sky with even light today, with next to no ripple with the glass holding level. Fish at Lac Cote should hold close to bays that hold the day's warmth. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

You will find Lac Cote in Capitale-Nationale, Quebec. It sits at 321 metres above sea level. Start from Laurentides, 24 km down the road. For a city, Sainte-Foy is 102 km off. Water in the same corner: Lac aux Daphnies out at 0.7 km, Lac des Trois Hurons 1 km off, Lac des Chrysalides out at 1.1 km, Lac Ulderic 1.4 km off and Lac Carl out at 1.8 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Capitale-Nationale cover lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker, sauger and channel catfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The near bank of Lac Cote is often the one people ignore.
On the long-term average, July reads 17°C and January reads -16°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Averages place the thaw at late April and the freeze at mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. On Lac Cote the same rules apply, with local timing.
No public source sets out the position on this bank. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. For walleye, a jig and minnow near the bottom is the standard; evenings beat middays. Sort the permit out before you load the car. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac aux Daphnies at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Cote for certain.
