Flat light and a covered sky today, with light air out of the SSW and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac Pilon along sheltered bays and points. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Lac Pilon is an Outaouais water, in Quebec. Elevation runs to 312 metres. It measures about 18 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The bank runs about 1.7 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The town to know is Deep River, 65 km out. It is 177 km to Gatineau, the nearest city. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Anyone new to Lac Pilon should walk it once before setting up.
The range across the year is -15°C to 18°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. The season on Lac Pilon follows the weather closely.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac Condon at 3.5 km is the sensible second choice. The position on Lac Pilon is worth confirming on the day.
