Solid cloud cover today, with a faint S drift and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Pigeon should be near structure within a cast of the bank. The numbers single out the morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The Mauricie end of Quebec holds Lac Pigeon. The setting is rolling bush. Small at around 3 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Mauricie list. Supplies mean a trip to Saint-Élie-de-Caxton, 40 km off. Shawinigan is 45 km away, with Mandeville at 47 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Our records hold no depth for this water. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name northern pike, brook trout and walleye. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. On Lac Pigeon the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The warmest month averages 18°C, the coldest about -15°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near late November: that is the shape of an average year. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. Lac Pigeon runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Lac Boreal, 1.1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Pigeon before loading the car.
