An even grey lid over the water, with a light SSE breeze and the barometer holding steady. Whatever swims in Lac Perron should be near the calm side of the wind. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Perron is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. It lies 407 metres above sea level. Around 29 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The edge runs 2.8 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. On our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list it sits near the top for size. Albanel sits 70 km from here and is the nearest stop. Normandin lies 70 km off, Dolbeau-Mistassini another 81 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Lac Perron the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -19°C on the long-run figures. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. The season between ice runs from about early May to mid November. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. Time your trip to Lac Perron by conditions rather than dates.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Some banks are open only from a marked point. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. For a change of water, Lac Dufresne is 5.1 km distant. Check the current arrangement for Lac Perron.
