Overcast skies today, with a light SSE breeze and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac de Vase is the seam between weed and open water. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean entry here is Lac de Vase, in Quebec. The water sits 352 metres up. Surface area runs to about 7 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Roughly 1.7 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. Albanel at 59 km is the nearest place to stop. Normandin lies 60 km off, Dolbeau-Mistassini another 71 km. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, recorded fish include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Anyone new to Lac de Vase should walk it once before setting up.
July runs about 16°C on average, January about -19°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around early May. On average, early May opens the water and mid November closes it again. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. At Lac de Vase the season follows that pattern closely.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. The nearest alternative is Lac Milakutu, 3.3 km out. None of that is settled for Lac de Vase in what we hold.
