Soft grey light all day today, with just enough SSE wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Lac Fourchu around any hard bottom among the soft. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Morning
Lac Fourchu lies in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. It stands 341 metres above sea level. Roughly 21 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge runs 3.7 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. Albanel sits 55 km from the bank. Normandin is 56 km away, with Dolbeau-Mistassini at 68 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Read Lac Fourchu for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. Lac Fourchu runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Check whether a boat is allowed before you tow one. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Failing this one, try Lac Creux, 1.2 km away. Signs at Lac Fourchu carry more weight than any list.
