Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with calm air over the water with a settled glass. The productive water at Lac Orsan will be around the calm side of the wind. The night is where the day comes good. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Orsan belongs to Laurentides, Quebec. It sits at 476 metres above sea level. At roughly 2 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Laurentides. Nearest town is Rivière-Rouge, 31 km off. Labelle lies 41 km off, Saint-Donat-de-Montcalm another 47 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Laurentides include pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass and yellow perch. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Lac Orsan the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
Temperature averages peak at 17°C in July and bottom out at -15°C in January. Fishing here follows the temperature more than the calendar. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Plan any trip to Lac Orsan around it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. If the gate is shut, Lac Robitaille at 0.9 km is the nearest alternative. Confirm access to Lac Orsan locally before you travel.
