Wet weather working through today, with a consistent blow out of the S and the barometer holding steady. Lac Orleans should fish best around the shallows early and the drop later today. The best of it runs night into morning. Small adjustments will matter more than big moves. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Set in Mauricie, Quebec, this is Lac Orleans. It sits at 348 metres above sea level. The water covers some 84 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 6.9 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. It ranks high for size among our Mauricie listings. The closest town, La Tuque, is 32 km away. Laurentides lies 36 km off, Sainte-Thècle another 72 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Mauricie: northern pike, brook trout and walleye. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac Orleans the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Anyone fishing Lac Orleans regularly works to that calendar.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac Ricard is 1.6 km off. Signs at Lac Orleans carry more weight than any list.
