Overcast skies today, with a whisper of wind from the S with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac Olley should come off windblown banks where food collects. The night carries the best of the day. Fish tidy and take what the day gives. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Olley is set in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. It sits at 411 metres above sea level. It runs to roughly 11 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Bank access stretches around 1.9 km in total. Our Nord-du-Québec list holds plenty of bigger water. For supplies, Chibougamau is 60 km out. For a city, Saguenay is 236 km off. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Nord-du-Québec: Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Lac Olley fishes better once you know its edges.
The warm month here averages 16°C; the cold one sits at -19°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Break-up near early May, freeze-up near mid November: that is the shape of an average year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Plan around that when you fish Lac Olley.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. If the gate is shut, Lac Savoyard at 0.8 km is the nearest alternative. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Olley for certain.
