Snow softening the light today, with calm air over the water with a settled glass. Most of the action on Lac Olive should come off the shaded margin through bright spells. If you must go, go in the evening. Save the long walk for a better forecast. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Olive is one of the Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean listings for Quebec. Elevation runs to 730 metres. It covers about 9 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Quebec listings. Saint-Honoré is the closest place, 48 km off. It is 59 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
We hold no depth figure for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Lac Olive where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Climate normals give 15°C for July and -19°C for January. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around mid May. Expect the water usable from around mid May until roughly early November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. That is the shape of the year on Lac Olive.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Boats go in at Débarcadère, roughly 1.2 km from the water. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Ruban, 0.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Lac Olive as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
