A white sky and falling snow today, with air barely moving and steady pressure. Give the weed line and any gaps in it the first hour at Lac Long. A hard day on paper; the evening edges the rest. Lower the pace and stay patient. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Lac Long is a Quebec water. Spruce and muskeg runs right down to the water. Roughly 22 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. About 3.9 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. It is high ground by Quebec standards. Saint-Honoré is the closest place, 47 km off. Saguenay sits 58 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Lac Long the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Expect July to average close to 15°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. The freeze holds for the better part of the year. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid May. Ice usually gives way near mid May, and forms again about early November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. That shapes the year on Lac Long.
We hold no note on access for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. The nearest recorded ramp is Débarcadère, 600 m out. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac Olive at 0.8 km is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Lac Long.
