A wet system passing over today, with a faint W drift and steady pressure. The water to cover at Lac Okane is any hard bottom among the soft. Numbers are low everywhere; the night is the pick of them. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

This water sits in Mauricie, Quebec. The bank is 321 metres above sea level. At 1.45 sq km this is proper open water rather than a pond. Around 11 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. On our Mauricie list it sits near the top for size. The nearest town is La Tuque, 36 km away. Weymontachie is 67 km and Laurentides 80 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Public occurrence data for Mauricie names northern pike, brook trout, walleye and yellow perch. The county figures include rivers and lakes alike. Read Lac Okane before you fish it and the day goes better.
Between January at about -16°C and July at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Winter puts a hard lid on this one. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Climate figures give an open season running late April to mid November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Lac Okane.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Lac Jules, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Okane before loading the car.
