Overcast skies today, with a light chop building from the SSW with the barometer flat. Most of the action on Lac O'Brien should come off sheltered bays and points. A stay-home graph, with the night as the one excuse to go. Save the long walk for a better forecast. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Lac O'Brien is one of the Outaouais waters in Quebec. It sits at 223 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 10 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. The whole outline is near 1.5 km, and most of it is walkable. It lies lower than most water we list in Quebec. Nearest place of any size is Deep River, 9.4 km away. Beyond it, Chalk River at 12 km and Petawawa at 26 km. It sits near the edge of the county, so check which rules apply.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Outaouais records list pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass among the fish reported. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Fish Lac O'Brien where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
Long-term averages put July at about 18°C and January near -14°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Climate averages put the opening at about late April and the closing near late November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Lac O'Brien fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Lac Paquette, 0.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac O'Brien in what we hold.
