Solid cloud cover today, with a light chop building from the SSW and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Lac de la Vase should be near windblown banks where food collects. The forecast is against you; the morning is the least bad option. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

The Outaouais end of Quebec holds Lac de la Vase. It sits in lake country bush. This is a pocket water of some 6 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Chalk River sits 9.5 km from the bank. Deep River lies 11 km off, Petawawa another 22 km. Nearby alternatives: Lac Bryso after 1.6 km, Lac Hebner near enough 3.5 km, Lac Paquette after 4.1 km, Lac O'Brien near enough 4.4 km and Lac Normandeau after 4.5 km. Rules can differ a short way off, since the county line is near.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Outaouais records list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Lac de la Vase responds to conditions more than to tactics.
In an average year July sits at 19°C and January at -13°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. The season between ice runs from about late April to early December. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Lac de la Vase runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Bryso, 1.6 km away, makes the obvious fallback. None of that is settled for Lac de la Vase in what we hold.
