A crisp, open sky after dark, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface and steady pressure. Activity on Lac Nouveau should centre on the margins and the shelf beyond them. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Set in Côte-Nord, Lac Nouveau is a Quebec water. The setting is taiga on every side. Small at around 9 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Ground here is low by Quebec standards. Betsiamites is the closest place, 22 km off. Chute-aux-Outardes follows at 29 km, then Hauterive at 40 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Côte-Nord include logperch. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. Lac Nouveau gives up more to patience than to distance.
Expect July near 17°C and January near -16°C on the long-run figures. The season is measured in weeks rather than months. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. The open-water window runs from around early May to about mid November in an average year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Anyone fishing Lac Nouveau regularly works to that calendar.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Perch take small lures and worms fished near the bottom close to structure. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lac Mashimekus Kamishistit is 1 km off. Check the position on Lac Nouveau before loading the car.
