Flat light and a covered sky today, with a light WSW breeze and steady pressure. The fish at Lac Noir are likely to sit near the margins and the shelf beyond them. A tough forecast; the night offers the only real chance. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Noir belongs to Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec. The bank gives way to spruce and muskeg. Around 28 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. A shoreline of some 3.4 km keeps the choices simple. Pont Rouge sits 92 km from the bank. Then Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc, 94 km, and Sainte-Monique, 98 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Open data we checked carries no depth for this water. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Reported across Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean: northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Noir gives up more to patience than to distance.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -19°C. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Hard cover is dependable here; it goes around early May. From about early May to around mid November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. That is the shape of the year on Lac Noir.
No access rule appears in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the pike, wire up and throw larger lures along the weed edges. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. If the gate is shut, Lac Grenier at 1.1 km is the nearest alternative. Signs at Lac Noir carry more weight than any list.
