Soft grey light all day today, with just enough S wind to ripple the surface with the glass holding level. Give structure within a cast of the bank the first hour at Lac Noir. The strongest window is the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

The Laurentides end of Quebec holds Lac Noir. It sits in mixed forest. With some 32 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 3.1 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. It ranks high for size among our Laurentides listings. The town to know is La Minerve, 2.9 km out. After that come Lac-Simon at 16 km and Labelle at 16 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Laurentides names pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. Read Lac Noir for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
Seasonal averages run from -14°C in January up to 18°C in July. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Lac Noir fishes to that pattern most years.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Where the way in crosses private ground, ask first. Petit lac Bois Franc sits 0.9 km off and takes the overflow. Ask locally about Lac Noir if anything is unclear.
