Dull, settled light over the water, with mild air moving in from the S and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Lac Nizan should come off the weed line and any gaps in it. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Set in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec, this is Lac Nizan. The bank is 375 metres above sea level. At roughly 5 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. Supplies mean a trip to Normandin, 67 km off. For a city, Saguenay is 184 km off. Nearby alternatives: Lac Turenne about 1.4 km, Lac de l'Arret 1.6 km off, Lac Desermous about 1.9 km, Lac Utelle 1.9 km off and Lac Saint-May about 2.1 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
We hold no depth figure for this one. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Lac Nizan the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Between January at about -19°C and July at about 16°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Averages suggest open water from about early May through to roughly mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Lac Nizan fishes to that pattern most years.
The access position is unclear from public sources. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Lac Turenne at 1.4 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Lac Nizan as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
