Soft grey light all day today, with almost no wind to speak of and the barometer holding steady. Fish at Lac Newcombe should hold close to the shallows early and the drop later. Save your energy for the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

In Quebec, Lac Newcombe falls inside Outaouais. It sits in mixed forest. Surface area is around 25 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. With about 2.7 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. The town to know is Wakefield, 6.5 km out. The big place round here is Gatineau, 27 km distant. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. Records at county level tell you what is around, not what is stocked here. On Lac Newcombe that means starting tight and working out.
Seasonal averages run from -13°C in January up to 19°C in July. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Count on hard cover from midwinter, and open water from late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly early December. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. The season on Lac Newcombe rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows a campsite some 750 m from the water. Largemouth respond to soft plastics tight to cover; go weedless where the growth is heavy. Ask in the nearest town if you are unsure. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac de l'Ecluse sits 1.8 km off and takes the overflow. None of that is settled for Lac Newcombe in what we hold.
