A closed sky with even light today, with flat calm through the day with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Lac Nelson around the shallows early and the drop later. Make the morning the heart of the trip. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Look for Lac Nelson in the Lanaudière part of Quebec. It stands 464 metres above sea level. It measures about 18 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. With about 3.0 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Saint-Michel-des-Saints is the closest place, 31 km off. Further out sit Manawan (59 km) and Mandeville (69 km). Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Lanaudière cover pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch and rock bass. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Take Lac Nelson a stretch at a time.
The year swings from about -16°C in January to roughly 17°C in July. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. Plan any trip to Lac Nelson around it.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Lac Girot sits 1.8 km off and takes the overflow. What applies at Lac Nelson may have changed since it was mapped.
