Patchy cloud drifting through today, with an easy breeze from the SE and the barometer holding steady. Expect most activity at Lac Mondragon around reed fringes and open pockets. A hard day on paper; the night edges the rest. Scale down and fish slowly. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

The Nord-du-Québec entry here is Lac Mondragon, in Quebec. The water sits 463 metres up. Surface area runs to roughly 3.55 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. With 21 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Head to Labrador City, 327 km away, for anything you forgot. The big place round here is Saguenay, 755 km distant. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. Read it as a county summary, not a water-by-water list. On Lac Mondragon the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Climate records put July near 12°C and January near -25°C. Ice holds for a long stretch, so the open weeks matter more here than further south. Look for the thaw near late May; the fishing lifts straight after. Ice clears near late May and comes back about late October in a typical year. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Lac Mondragon runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Turreau at 3.7 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Lac Mondragon may have changed since it was mapped.
