Cloud in patches with bright spells between, with a soft SE wind and no real change in pressure. On Lac Decoigne, work any hard bottom among the soft first. Expectations low today; if anything moves, it will be in the night. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cold air keeps the water sluggish; scale everything down.

Nord-du-Québec in Quebec is where Lac Decoigne sits. It sits in northern bush. This is sizeable water at about 7.65 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. It ranks among the bigger water on our Quebec list. Some 330 km away sits Kuujjuaq, the nearest settlement. After that come Labrador City at 343 km and Wabush at 349 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Survey and observation records for Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. The county list is broader than any single water. Lac Decoigne fishes better once you know its edges.
Between January at about -25°C and July at about 12°C, the water has a wide range to work through. This is a two-season water: locked, then wide open. Once it clears, about early June, the fishing comes on quickly. The water is typically free of ice between early June and late October. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. On Lac Decoigne the same rules apply, with local timing.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Access is unmapped, which usually means a farm track and a walk. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Failing this one, try Lac Jacquemont, 3.6 km away. Treat Lac Decoigne as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
