Wet weather working through today, with a whisper of wind from the SSW and steady pressure. On Lac Mollen, work the margins and the shelf beyond them first. If you must go, go in the night. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Lac Mollen is one of the Côte-Nord waters in Quebec. The land about it is boreal forest. It covers about 4 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Côte-Nord. Nearest town is Port-Cartier, 104 km off. Beyond it, Saint-Alexandre at 105 km and Godefroy at 105 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Côte-Nord include logperch. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. The shape of Lac Mollen rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Average temperature peaks around 14°C in July and bottoms out near -20°C in January. The ice season is long here and the open one short. After mid May the shallows warm and the fish move up. From about mid May to around early November, expect open water on the long-run figures. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. On Lac Mollen the same rules apply, with local timing.
We hold no note on access for this one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the perch, a small jig tipped with worm, dropped along the edges, is hard to beat. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac Tenagan, 0.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Lac Mollen, the notice at the access point is the final word.
