Heavy overcast holding through the day, with the surface near flat and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Lac Michelle should come off windblown banks where food collects. Numbers are low everywhere; the morning is the pick of them. Go lighter and slower than usual. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lac Michelle is a Nord-du-Québec water, Quebec side. The land about it is taiga. It runs to roughly 20 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The whole outline is near 2.4 km, and most of it is walkable. On size it sits at the modest end of our Nord-du-Québec list. Supplies mean a trip to Waswanipi, 58 km off. For a city, Saguenay is 364 km off. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Fish documented in Nord-du-Québec include Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout, lake whitefish and cisco. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Fish Lac Michelle where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
July is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 16°C, while January sits near -19°C. Water stays cold even at the height of the year. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Expect the water usable from around early May until roughly mid November. The weeks after the thaw and the ones before the freeze are the strongest. On Lac Michelle the same rules apply, with local timing.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Lac Sandy, 1.5 km away. Rules at Lac Michelle are worth checking on the day.
