Lac Michel, Quebec: Fishing Spots and Seasons

• Overview

  Lac Michel sits in Chaudière-Appalaches, out in Quebec. The bank gives way to pine and birch. Surface area runs to about 4 hectares — small enough to read in one session. Most waters listed here for Chaudière-Appalaches are larger. Linière sits 17 km from here and is the nearest stop. Beyond it, Saint-Côme--Linière at 27 km and Saint-Georges at 39 km. No border sits close enough to matter.

• Where to Fish on Lac Michel

  We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Chaudière-Appalaches include lake sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, longnose sucker, sauger and channel catfish. • Seasonal Patterns

  The seasonal spread runs -13°C to 17°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. In an average year the thaw lands around late April and the freeze near late November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Expect Lac Michel to follow that timing.
