A closed sky with even light today, with barely a breath of wind and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lac Meston is reed fringes and open pockets. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Nord-du-Québec end of Quebec holds Lac Meston. Elevation runs to 383 metres. At about 50 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Roughly 3.8 km of bank means you can walk to a fresh area when one goes quiet. You are 42 km from Chapais. Chibougamau is 50 km away, with Mistissini at 114 km. Other water nearby: Lac Norhart 5.5 km off, Lac Nemenjiche at 7.4 km, Lac James 8 km off, Lac Verneuil at 8.2 km and Lac Norhart 9.5 km off. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
We hold no depth figure for this one. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Public occurrence data for Nord-du-Québec names Arctic charr, brook trout, lake trout and lake whitefish. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. On Lac Meston the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
Averages move between -19°C in January and 16°C in July. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near early May. In an average year the thaw lands around early May and the freeze near mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Lac Meston.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. For a change of water, Lac Norhart is 5.5 km distant. None of that is settled for Lac Meston in what we hold.
