Dull, settled light over the water, with calm air over the water and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Lac Lauzerte along windblown banks where food collects. Set the alarm around the night. Work the productive water thoroughly. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Look for Lac Lauzerte in Nord-du-Québec, Quebec. The water sits 401 metres up. Surface area runs to about 8 hectares — small enough to read in one session. On size it sits at the modest end of our Nord-du-Québec list. Head to Chibougamau, 50 km away, for anything you forgot. It is 266 km to Saguenay, the nearest city. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Public occurrence data for Nord-du-Québec names Arctic charr, brook trout and lake trout. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Fish Lac Lauzerte to its features, not to its size.
On the long-term average, July reads 16°C and January reads -19°C. Everything is compressed into the middle of the year. Count the season from break-up, usually early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. On Lac Lauzerte the same rules apply, with local timing.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No car park, ramp or path is recorded within easy reach of the shore. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Lac Mannard, 1.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Lac Lauzerte as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
