Flat light and a covered sky today, with light air out of the S and no real change in pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Messague should be near shallow cover and weed edges. Set the alarm around the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

In Quebec, Lac Messague falls inside Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean. The ground around here is taiga. Roughly 32 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. About 3.8 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. It ranks high for size among our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean listings. For a base, Chibougamau sits 82 km out. The nearest city of size is Saguenay, 220 km away. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Fish documented in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon, lake whitefish and fallfish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Lac Messague gives up more to patience than to distance.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -19°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Hard water holds through the cold months, breaking up near early May. Climate figures give an open season running early May to mid November. Early summer and early autumn carry the open-water season. On Lac Messague the same rules apply, with local timing.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Pilliard at 1.1 km is the sensible second choice. For Lac Messague in particular, ask before you travel.
