A grey, even sky over the water, with a kind SSW breeze on the water and the barometer holding steady. Lac Meriel should fish best around the seam between weed and open water today. Numbers are low everywhere; the middle of the day is the pick of them. Take the small wins and call it early if it dies.

Set in Outaouais, Lac Meriel is a Quebec water. The water sits 352 metres up. Roughly 1.30 sq km of surface: treat each bay as a water in its own right. The edge covers about 14 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Few waters listed in Outaouais are bigger. Saint-Boniface at 74 km is the nearest place to stop. The big place round here is Gatineau, 190 km distant. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Public occurrence data for Outaouais names pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. County data is a starting point rather than a guarantee. Lac Meriel gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Expect July to average close to 17°C, with January the cold end at about -17°C. A full turn of seasons, with the strongest sport on either side of summer. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. On average, late April opens the water and late November closes it again. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. It holds true on Lac Meriel more years than not.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Lac de la Becasse, 0.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Lac Meriel for certain.
