An even grey lid over the water, with a faint S drift and steady pressure. Whatever swims in Lac Melanie should be near the seam between weed and open water. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac Melanie sits in Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean, out in Quebec. The ground around here is northern bush. 30 km away sits Labrecque, the nearest town. Saint-Ambroise follows at 35 km, then L'Ascension-de-Notre-Seigneur at 36 km. Near neighbours: Lac Leon within 0.2 km, Lac Cecile some 0.3 km off, Lac Nere within 0.8 km, Petit lac aux Visons some 1.6 km off and Lac Rosaire within 1.7 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean include northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lac Melanie the first feature you find is usually worth a session.
The year swings from about -18°C in January to roughly 16°C in July. The fishing year opens late and shuts early. Ice is part of the season here, ending near early May. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. At Lac Melanie the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. A slipway 1 km out gives trailer access. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Lac Leon at 0.2 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Lac Melanie in what we hold.
