Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with mild air moving in from the NE with the glass holding level. Activity on Lac McPhee should centre on the margins and the shelf beyond them. A long productive spell runs night into morning. Make the first hour count and build on it. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Lac McPhee is a Laurentides water, Quebec side. Tidal water begins 27 km from here. The water measures roughly 7 hectares, so nothing here is far from anything else. 15 km away sits L'Orignal, the nearest town. Hawkesbury lies 15 km off, Brownsburg-Chatham another 16 km. This one is safely inside the county line. Fresh water, on the record we hold.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Laurentides records list pumpkinseed, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, brook trout and rock bass among the fish reported. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. On Lac McPhee the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Expect July to average close to 19°C, with January the cold end at about -12°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Ice is part of the season here, ending near late April. Ice clears near late April and comes back about early December in a typical year. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Lac McPhee fishes to that pattern most years.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. If the gate is shut, Lac Welden at 1.1 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position at Lac McPhee before loading the car.
