Wet weather working through today, with a soft SSW wind with the barometer flat. Expect most activity at Lac McNaughton around the margins and the shelf beyond them. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Lac McNaughton lies in Outaouais, in Quebec. Land around it is lake country bush. The water covers some 18 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. Around 3.0 km of margin, front to back. Start from Saint-Boniface, 64 km down the road. For a city, Gatineau is 164 km off. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County-wide records name pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. Lac McNaughton fishes better once you know its edges.
Climate normals give 17°C for July and -16°C for January. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. Plan around that when you fish Lac McNaughton.
The access position is unclear from public sources. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Lac Mewab at 2.5 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on Lac McNaughton before loading the car.
