Overcast skies today, with a whisper of wind from the S and pressure going nowhere. Fish at Lac McLaren should hold close to sheltered bays and points. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Lac McLaren sits in Outaouais, out in Quebec. Elevation runs to 207 metres. At 2 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. On size it sits at the modest end of our Outaouais list. Nearest town is Val-des-Monts, 4.3 km off. Beyond it, Cantley at 16 km and Buckingham at 16 km. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Records held for Outaouais cover pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. At Lac McLaren the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Seasonal averages run from -12°C in January up to 20°C in July. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Once it clears, about mid April, the fishing comes on quickly. The water is typically free of ice between mid April and early December. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Lac McLaren fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Baie Mud, 0.9 km out. For Lac McLaren, the notice at the access point is the final word.
