Heavy overcast holding through the day, with almost no wind to speak of and no real change in pressure. The fish at Lac McKay are likely to sit near reed fringes and open pockets. The strongest window is the middle of the day. Stay patient; middling days often turn late. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Out in Outaouais, Quebec, sits Lac McKay. The ground around here is rolling bush. Small at around 4 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Outaouais list. Wakefield is the closest place, 25 km off. Beyond it, Val-des-Monts at 31 km and Cantley at 37 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Outaouais list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass and rainbow smelt. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Read Lac McKay before you fish it and the day goes better.
The warmest month averages 19°C, the coldest about -13°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. The lid tends to go about late April and return around early December. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. At Lac McKay the season follows that pattern closely.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. A small crankbait along the drop and a worm in the thick stuff cover the bass. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Cinq lacs a la Truite at 1 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing on Lac McKay should be assumed from this page alone.
