A wet system passing over today, with a whisper of wind from the S with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac McFee will be around shallow cover and weed edges. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Set in Outaouais, Quebec, this is Lac McFee. The land about it is lake country bush. Roughly 91 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. The edge covers about 10 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. It ranks high for size among our Outaouais listings. Start from Val-des-Monts, 8 km down the road. Gatineau is the closest city, 27 km away. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Outaouais include pumpkinseed, yellow perch and smallmouth bass. It is the county picture; the agency list is water-specific. Treat Lac McFee as a water to read rather than to cover.
Between January at about -13°C and July at about 19°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Ice-out usually falls in late April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. The open-water window runs from around late April to about early December in an average year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. It holds true on Lac McFee more years than not.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. For the bass here, soft plastics worked slow along cover and a spinnerbait for searching do most of the work. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. The nearest alternative is Lac Sheridan, 1.1 km out. For Lac McFee in particular, ask before you travel.
