A closed sky with even light today, with a whisper of wind from the SSW with the glass holding level. Activity on Lac Matow should centre on structure within a cast of the bank. Everything points to the night. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Lac Matow lies within the bounds of Outaouais, Quebec. The surface lies 332 metres up. About 3 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Our Outaouais list holds plenty of bigger water. Ripon at 16 km is the nearest place to stop. Further out sit Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel (17 km) and Saint-André-Avellin (24 km). The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Outaouais records list pumpkinseed, yellow perch, smallmouth bass, rainbow smelt and Iowa darter among the fish reported. Records at this level tell you what is in the area. The shape of Lac Matow decides where the fish sit.
July runs about 18°C on average, January about -13°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. Ice clears near late April and comes back about late November in a typical year. May into June fishes hardest, and September gives a second good stretch before the lid returns. Plan any trip to Lac Matow around it.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Bass water: a Texas-rigged worm near cover, a spinnerbait when you need to cover ground. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Lac de la Province sits 0.2 km off and takes the overflow. Confirm access to Lac Matow locally before you travel.
