Overcast skies today, with a decent SSW wind working the banks with a settled glass. The productive water at Lac Massin will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. Everything points to the night. Take the steady approach over the searching one. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean in Quebec is where Lac Massin sits. The country round it is northern bush from end to end. This is a pocket water of some 3 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list holds plenty of bigger water. Normandin lies 37 km from the water. Beyond it, Saint-Félicien at 41 km and Albanel at 44 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Lac Massin gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -18°C in January. The year here is short and sharp: a long lid, then a burst of open water. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about mid November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. Expect Lac Massin to follow that timing.
We hold no note on access for this one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. A wire trace and a big bright lure handle the pike; deep water asks for a heavier spoon. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lac Cassis, 1 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position on Lac Massin before loading the car.
