Soft grey light all day today, with a steady SSW wind with the barometer flat. The productive water at Lac Cassis will be around the margins and the shelf beyond them. The night should out-fish the rest of the day. Take the steady approach over the searching one. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Lac Cassis is a Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean water, in Quebec. Height above sea level is 516 metres. This is a pocket water of some 3 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. On size it sits at the modest end of our Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean list. Head to Normandin, 37 km away, for anything you forgot. Then Saint-Félicien, 42 km, and Albanel, 45 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records held for Saguenay/Lac-Saint-Jean cover northern pike, Atlantic salmon and lake whitefish. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Lac Cassis rewards a slow walk along one bank.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -18°C on the long-run figures. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from early May. Ice clears near early May and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. Anyone fishing Lac Cassis regularly works to that calendar.
No access rule appears in what we hold. Mapping records no facilities at all near this water. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. The nearest alternative is Lac Massin, 1 km out. The position on Lac Cassis is worth confirming on the day.
